Black Clouds & Silver Linings è il decimo album in studio del gruppo musicale statunitense Dream Theater, pubblicato il 23 giugno 2009 dalla Roadrunner Records.

Si tratta dell’ultimo album in cui è presente il batterista Mike Portnoy, prima del suo abbandono avvenuto l’8 settembre 2010.

The Best of Times è stata scritta da Portnoy come dedica a suo padre, scomparso nello stesso anno di pubblicazione dell’album.

La sua intenzione era infatti di voler scrivere «qualcosa che fosse un tributo alla nostra vita passata insieme». 
Il brano (purtroppo!) non è mai stato eseguito ‘live perchè troppo emozionante per Portnoy.
